Albenza Uses:
Albenza tablet is used to treat tapeworm infection (e.g., hydatid
disease).
Other Uses:
Albenza may also be used to treat other parasite infections.
How To Use Albenza:
Take albenza tablet by mouth, generally given twice daily with
meals, or as directed by your doctor. Be sure to take other medications,
if prescribed, for your condition.
Side Effects:
Albenza may cause dizziness, headache, fever, nausea, vomiting,
or temporary hair loss. If these effects persist or worsen, notify
your doctor promptly. Very unlikely, but report promptly: persistent
sore throat or fever, severe headache, seizures, vision problems,
yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, easy bruising,
mental/mood changes, very stiff neck, change in amount of urine.
In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug,
seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction
to this drug include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble
breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact
your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, including any allergies you
may have. Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate certain side
effects of this drug. Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring
alertness (e.g., driving). Albenza tablet should be used only when
clearly needed during pregnancy. It may cause fetal harm. Discuss
the risks and benefits with your doctor, as well as use of reliable
birth control methods during and for one month after treatment.
Inform your doctor immediately should you become pregnant, or think
you may be pregnant. It is unknown if this drug is excreted into
breast milk Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription medication
you may use, especially: dexamethasone, praziquantel, cimetidine,
theophylline. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or
pharmacist approval.
ALBENZA OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center
or emergency room immediately.
NOTES:
Do not share albenza tablet with others. This medication has been
prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later
for another infection (unless told to do so by your doctor). A different
medication may be necessary in those cases. Laboratory tests (including
pregnancy tests) will be performed before and/or during treatment
with this drug.
MISSED DOSE:
If you miss a dose of albenza, use it as soon as you remember. If
it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume
your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE of Albenza:
Store albenza at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 to 25
degrees C) away from light and moisture.
